I Ran Away to the Circus!

What better way to start a trip to the circus than with a raspado and an elote?! I submit that there is not a better way. Just try eating them in a small car with 5 people without spilling. ha. I love my tide-to-go, that's all I'm sayin'.

elote: corn on the cob covered with mayonnaise, cheese (what we would consider to be parmesan cheese, and chile) 

raspado: snow-cone with not too finely shaved ice, and a really fruit sugary juice poured over the top.

Bienvendios al Circo!!!

We went to the circus to celebrate my host cousin's baby's 1st birthday. It's kind of a big deal when you turn 1. Dora came, balloons, multiple cakes, food, food, and more food. The whole sha-bang. (The baby's mom's family owns/runs/ and does all the acts in the circus.)

I'm glad he was napping...my hand was in the cage....

Now, this camel is all cute and things like that...but a few minutes after this picture I got to feed it. (The part I'm sooooo upset about is that my camera deleted the picture of me feeding it.) It was like it just ate out of my hand. oh no, no. The ringleader (in the picture below) took a banana, peel and all, stuck it in his mouth to "wash" it off, then stuck that same side into my mouth, and proceeded to bring the camel right up to my face. Yes, I fed the camel a banana straight out of my mouth and was kissed in the process...I'm not sure who kissed who. It all happened so fast.

The circus owner let me brush and ride their main horse before the show! He told me if I ever wanted to come back to Mexico that I could have a job at the circus! Thanks to my horseback riding class! 

They don't look it, but these two little guys pull hair, steal cell phones, children, etc etc (jk on the children part...) Having a monkey would be my dream pet...but these ones...trouble.

What would you say when one asks you if you want to climb to the top of a circus tent? Because for me that was a dream come true, a bucket list item I didn't know I had, a once in a lifetime opportunity, and an absolutely thrilling moment in my life. 

It's way higher than it looks...and yes, we only had a little wire and a few ropes to hang onto. Mom, don't worry I lived through it all.

but really, pretty much one of the best things in my life. 

(anyone that knows my childhood knows that I am, have always been, and will probably always be a roof obsessor...whatever that means)

They get me everytime....hysterical. My love for minions continues to grow.

(This picture is actually really funny. I just remembered that the owner of the circus/the father of all the performers/the ring leader stopped the entire show and made me go out there to take a picture with Chavo and his amigo. In. front. of. everyone. haha It was so awkward and hilarious at the same time.)

Posting from Puebla

A few weeks ago I got to go see a little bit of Puebla with my family! I loved what we saw and I wish that we had had more time to see even more of the beautiful city. We spent the first part of the day at the markets, of course. I love looking at everything there is buy! I just wish two things-that I could just buy everything, and that everything that I would buy if I could would fit in my suitcases. :)

 This was the first cathedral that we went to first-The Cathedral of San Francisco. I really like how the inside was set up with several large chapels. It is so interesting though how so much of this cathedral focused on dead people and their bodies, or representations of their bodies in glass cases just sitting there. It is told that one of the priests body was found basically muffified hundreds of years ago and his body is still there in the case...it was rather interesting.

 This cathedral behind is know to have the largest towers on a cathedral in Mexico! This one was absolutely beautiful!

 The ceilings were so tall and beautiful with the large chandeliers.

 The organ was one of my favorite parts. There was a large middle section and 2 side sections that you can't see in the picture and then an outside section which is in the picture below. I just wish someone had been there playing it and letting it echo throughout the cathedral down into our bones!

 Back in the day this was largest library in the Latin Americas. In this same building there were several beautiful art exhibits that were up. There was a lot of modern art but the more traditional art that was down back in the  60's was my favorite because it showed more of what the culture would have been there back in that time.

 Facing my worse fear...The carousel that looks out over the entire city. It takes about 20 minutes to go around once because it moves so slowly. You couldn't even feel that we were moving, but it still scared the bejeebers out of me.

A Week of Birthdays

This week we celebrated Karyme's, my host mom's, and my cousin's birthday, and not to forget the 

United States of America!!!

I love my little cousin!

And her father....I can't really take him seriously. He's so funny!

My host mom's birthday! Of course some choco-flan was a must.

We celebrated the 4th of July a day late and made homemade hamburgers and potato salad.

I could not have been happier in than moment with that big old hamburger in my mouth.

Karla painted my nails to celebrate. She does this all free-hand. She's amazing!

One of the teacher's lives with a family that has a daughter in the school. She kept bugging me to paint a butterfly on my face with make-up. I told her she could make me look like a teacher. Have I looked like a "maestra" she kept bugging me to make me a "maestra mariposa" (a butterfly teacher). These were the results. She then painted her mom's face and I painted Kayla's.

My tio has been sick and so I went to visit him before he went to Puebla for a while to get some tests. I love how he calls me sobrina. Everyone is like family here. I am going to miss them so much. :)

I love these kids so much. They all have such funny little quirks and I wish I had time to tell you all of them.
